Resort to Love
This romantic comedy movie gave me the feeling I have never had before. I usually focus on the plot, but this time seems different. After watching the movie, it brightened up my day actually. Comparing what I feel from the movie to the reality in the world, which Russia is fighting over Ukraine’s territory, seems so ironic. I just hope all people could have a peaceful world just like the feeling I got in the movie. There are three reasons why I decided to write about this movie, first, it is because I quite enjoyed listening to the music, which the singer sang at the wedding party at the resort. Second, seeing the spectacular views when these actors went hiking. Third, I saw how the actress faced with a very embarrassing situation. She had to sing at the wedding for her ex-boyfriend who was about to marry another girl. How it can be?
The heroine Erica was a singer that had chased her dream of making her own music, so she had been grinding her whole life. Meanwhile, she had a perfect boyfriend who was about to propose to her. When her life appeared wonderful, in most cases, the plot turned upside down. She was extremely sad and lay on the sofa every day. All she wanted to do was review how sweet the engagement video that they made a year ago on Jason’s birthday was over and over again. However, after proposing, Jason left without telling Erica. As a girlfriend and fiancée, how could she accept it? For that moment, it was the most important time she needed a friend, wasn’t it? Her friend was doing social media. She saw the Mer de Saphir Resort on the island of Mauritius, which is located in 700 miles east of Madagascar, looking for a singer. At the beginning, Erica refused because she didn’t want to sing the cover songs at the hotel lobby. After she convinced her, Erica decided to go.
By the time Erica arrived on the island of Mauritius, one of the members Barrington in the band had already waited for her at the airport. On the way to Mer de Saphir Resort, the view was astonishing. The island with a raft of palm trees was surrounded by blue sky and sea was like a picturesque. Erica and Barrington were on the van as if they took a time machine to the era of dinosaur. In the era of dinosaur, they could not only see little dinosaurs everywhere like lizard and gecko, but also enjoy modern life, which they could listen to music at open-air lounge bar. The relaxing feelings I got from the movie was beyond description. That’s why a lot of brides-to-be and grooms-to-be wanted to hold a wedding party there. I wish I could travel there as well one day.
“What? You didn’t tell me that I need to sing for bride-to-be and groom-to-be.” Erica said angrily.“You had to overcome it and got over from the grief.” said her friend. Erica didn’t really want to sing, but she had no choice but to sing. After all, she already came and promised to the manager. The first song she sang was as if she was crying. She also squatted down all of a sudden and let out the sound of grief. The audience showed their faces confusedly. The scene looked so funny. Barrington comforted her and chose some songs for her. This kind of awkward situation wouldn’t happen again. The second song was “I will survive”. The style of the music matched the costume she wore perfectly. She wore purple deep V neck top and purple bell bottom pants, which is the craze in the 1970s, as well as the blonde wig called Afro-hair. This costume highlighted her perfect S shape figure, which made her look pretty attractive. In coming days, she sang some classic songs. Such as “No One” by Alicia Keys, “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor, and “To Find Someone Like You” by Adele. Her voice was clear and melodious. When I looked at her singing as if I was standing there, moving my body, and holding up the wine glass to enjoy this relaxing moment. I assume that listening to her singing was the best gift for viewers that are watching this movie. When she started to enjoy working there and get rid of her pain, her ex-boyfriend who appeared suddenly push the plot to a new climax.
Owing to this small island, it was easy to meet anyone. Even if she didn’t want to see someone again, she couldn’t avoid it. The first man she met at the beach was Caleb, he retired from US military, Special Forces. He saved Erica that was almost drowning from saving a silly man. Caleb checked on her if she was alright. She didn’t know that he was Jason’s older brother. One day, Erica met Caleb at the hotel lobby again. She didn’t know Jason and Beverly Jason’s fiancée were far away from her, which they were sitting at the front desk. Jason turned his head around and saw Erica all of a sudden. “What? Why is she here? Jason said loudly. “She will sing at your wedding.” said the manager. “OMG” Jason’s eyes almost popped up. “Who is she? said Beverly. “Oh! She is one of my friends from New York.” said Jason. “That’s great. I want to know your friend.” said Beverly. “Hi, Erica.” Jason shouted loudly and quickly walked toward to her. “Please don’t say anything.” Jason gave her a hug and whispered to her. All of them greeted each other for a while. Until then, Erica knew Jason moved to Charleston. Even if Erica was angry about the situations, which Erica didn’t even know where Jason moved to and he was getting married to another woman, it didn’t show on her face. She kept smiling until everything was down. For this part, I think anyone couldn’t do what she did. Being with Jason for some years and having a lot of sweet memories in the past, how could she handle her feelings that she had for Jason in that situation? How could she talk to Beverly like a friend as if there was nothing happened? Why was she thinking actually? Was the feeling she had for Jason gone?
Beverly was an enthusiastic woman. The more Erica would like to avoid seeing them, the more Erica could see them anytime and anywhere. During the vacation, Beverly loved talking to Erica and inviting her to join their activities. Before going on a hike, Jason, Beverly, Caleb, and their common friend Allen were sitting and talking under sun shade umbrella.
“Erica, do you miss New York at all?” asked Beverly.
“I thought I would, but I don’t mostly. There is nothing to really go back to.” replied Erica.
“Jason told me that you missed the album you could release. It is a pity. I am sorry for that.” Said Beverly.
“That is no big deal. I am talking about my engagement.” said Erica
Jason almost fell down from the chair, Caleb was smiling and looking at two of them, Allen was coughing.
“Wow, you were engaged.” said Beverly.
“He got a really great job offer in a small town and he wanted to settle down and have kids. As for me, I was not really walking away from my dream of becoming a singer.” said Erica.
“A woman should never give up on her dream for a man. I am lucky. Jason supports me 100 percent in my dream, which is running for congress.” said Beverly.
“It is amazing. I do not think he didn’t know how important my dreams were to me? or he didn’t care.” said Erica.
“Maybe he thought your job was more important than he was.” said Jason suddenly.
“Wait, do you think he likes your life?” asked Beverly.
Everyone looked at Erica with big eyes. The guide Barrington popped up all of a sudden to stop this awkward situation. “Good morning, are you ready for adventure?” said Barrington. All of them stood up and started off going to go for a hike. What a spectacular canyon! The only way they could walk across the canyon was to walk on the rope bridge, which was made of two long and thin pallets combined and to need wear safety gear with buckles. The safety gear was buckled with tightrope and one hand on the guide cables at all times. How excited they were! I have difficulty imagining the feelings I could see that view and walk on it. The canyon was grand and huge and the valley was so deep. Humans wandering nature seem to become small like ants. We always say the power of nature is dangerous or buffalo is the most dangerous animal. However, what is the most dangerous? My answer is humans, isn’t it?
Beverly and Jason arranged some activities every day. Tomorrow it would be the last day Beverly was single. Beverly invited Erica to the last single party. When Erica sang, I enjoyed listening, sitting at open-air lounge bar with a gentle breeze. I imagined that I sipped at my wine and also listened to the sound from the waves near the beach. However, that party was for Beverly. She became a singer at that moment. The song she sang was Super Bass by Nicki Minaj, which the rhythm was brisk. While she was dancing, some also stood up to dance. The atmosphere of the party was getting higher and higher. I was surprised that she could sing so well. I don’t think I could just sit there without moving my body slightly if I were there. I wanted to stand up and dance, and sing loudly to share how happy I was. I searched for these two actors on the web. Until now, I know that they are Christina Milian and Christiani Pitts, which both are singers. I have no choice but to say that because of them, this movie is the best one I’ve ever seen. Beverly still enjoyed the moment of getting married tomorrow. However, how about Erica and Jason? Were they really letting the feeling they had for each other go away?
Jason texted Erica suddenly. Jason who was about to get married got cold feet and wanted to talk to Erica. He apologized to Erica for going away without telling her. The only reason why he left was just because he thought Erica liked her music career better than him. Erica was also sorry that she made him feel that way and she didn’t mean to make the relationship like competition. She was just busy with her career and didn’t notice how Jason was feeling. It also created another extra question. Have we thought about if we will be able to like or accept a way he or she lives before becoming a boyfriend or a girlfriend? When he or she becomes a part of our lives, relatively speaking, we also search for a way we will live next. This is not a simple question. When a relationship starts, everything is sweet. After getting married, everything turns bad all of a sudden. It does happen in reality all the time. After communicating with each other, Jason and Erica knew that they had different dreams. Although they still loved each other, they decided to let go of each other. She turned the feeling of love into the power that encouraged Jason to pursue his dream, which Beverly was his prefect match. At the end of the movie, Erica sang the song "No One" for Jason and Beverly at the wedding.
I like this movie. Although it is a romantic comedy movie, I see how mature Erica was and how she handled her relationship. It is not easy for everybody to be able to do it like her. The movie also conveys what kind of life we will have and sacrifices we should do when we decided to have a partner for the rest of our lives.
